I went to see Bruce Springsteen last night at Giant Stadium. He's doing a bunch of shows there before they knock it down next year. He even wrote a special song just for these performances, Wrecking Ball. He is such an amazing live performer! He just turned 60 and is still full of energy. Only bad part of the show...4 very intoxicated guys in front of me ruining the show. I don't understand why you'd spend the money for a ticket and get so messed up that you can't enjoy the show. I was so happy when one of them fell head first into the cement stairs. I'm so evil! Also, it was so cold last night!! It was about 50 degrees, way to cold for this time of year around here. They were actually selling hot cocoa. I've never seen that at concert before.

Great, Wildflower! (except for those intoxicated guys, that is) We've got the same cold snap up here, btw.

I saw our old pal Brandi Carlile Tuesday night at the Mod Club in Toronto. Great voice as always. The twins are still with her but she has a chicky drummer now. The cellist is the same also and as cool as ever. Brandi said it felt like she had not seen us for a very long time and apologized for skipping Toronto on the last tour and said she wouldn't do it again. (She hasn't played Toronto since 2007. That's the time we had a conversation about Chris, if anyone remembers.) Brandi said that Tim Hanseroth (her guitarist) has finally been allowed back into Canada. (?)

For those of you who don't know, Brandi opened for Chris Isaak on his 2005 tour and that's how we got to know her music. I saw her at the Community Theater in Morristown, NJ and partway through the show, they lost power and had to finish acoustically. That was cool! They did an acoustic song in Toronto and that reminded me of the NJ show. The Mod Club isn't that big but Brandi said it was the largest crowd they had played to in Toronto.

Brandi has a new CD coming out on October 6th called "Give Up the Ghost" and you can listen to the entire thing here:

http://www.billboard.com/features/listen-b...004016743.story

She didn't come out to sign after the show! What is going on this year? No one is signing. (H1 N1 anyone?)

I got some video but I was at the back.

"Looking Out" (from the new CD):

Yes, I can't believe he's now 60 .. and such a performer, I saw him only twice but each time I had a blast. How does sound this new song "Wrecking ball"? Just checked the set list and it seems like it was the opening song. I'm sorry about those stupid drunk guys, hope they haven't ruined the whole thing.

I'm going to see Paolo Nutini and Hugh Coltman in november.

She's playing at The Beacon in New York this weekend. I really wanted to go but it's my daughters birthday that night. She played in New York on my daughters birthday last year too. Then she played around here in the spring but I was too sick to go. Maybe I'm just not meant to see her again. I was a bit surprised to see her play a theater as big as The Beacon....but, of course, I will miss it. It's The Melting Pot with a bunch of 15 year old girls for me. Joy!

Hey Wildflower,

Sorry you had to miss Brandi this weekend. As you know, she puts on a good show. I'm sure you'll see her again. The Mod Club in Toronto is fairly small so a good place to see her. Have fun with the 15 year-olds!

Brandi just added a bunch more dates and she's coming back to this area. She's playing at The Wellmont Theater. Really cool old theater that was all fixed up and reopened about a year ago. I've been hoping Mr. Chris Isaak would be playing there. Maybe with all these new winter dates added he'll make a stop in New Jersey.
Just alittle bit warmer then Chicago and Detroit. Well, anyway, I guess I'll finally get to see Brandi again.

Ssshhh - rumour has it Lyle Lovett has manned up, and will make it for the Byron Bay Bluesfest - Easter 2010.
That would mean gigs in Melbourne too! smile.gif wink.gif huh.gif

Sorry to hijack the thread (a little bit, anyway...) but I thought this issue was of interest. Little Miss Britney Spears has touched down in our fair land, and the queen of lip-sync isn't getting off too lightly:~

Pop stars could be forced to disclose whether they lip-synch under new laws Britney Spears. Source: Herald Sun

POP stars such as Britney Spears could be forced to disclose whether they lip-sync under new laws to stop fans being ripped off.

The State Government wants concert promoters to place alerts on tickets or promotional material if performers plan to mime.

Consumer Affairs Minister Tony Robinson said fans deserved to know what they were paying for.

"We believe it is good business practice for concert promoters to make it clear to consumers before they buy tickets whether the performer will be miming, and make this clear on advertising, posters and other promotional materials," Mr Robinson said.

The call comes in the wake of revelations that comeback pop princess Britney Spears will be lip-synching most of her Circus tour shows.

The NSW Government is also examining if they can force performers to declare if they are lip-synching.

Possible options include a note on tickets saying that the performance may contain some pre-recorded elements or an examination of whether the use of the word "live" in promotions for lip-synched concerts is appropriate.

Mr Robinson said concert promoters faced potential prosecution under Victorian fair trading laws if they implied an artist was performing live when they were miming.

Consumer Action Law Centre chief Carolyn Bond said there could be an argument that not disclosing lip-synching in marketing material broke misleading advertising rules.

"Consumers should be protected, even those who go to a Britney Spears concert," Ms Bond said.

"We would encourage the Government to investigate."

Spears is performing four concerts at Rod Laver Arena from next Wednesday. Tickets are still on sale. Prices range from $99 for the cheap seats to $1500 for two VIP "love seats" near the stage.

Spears' tour director Steve Dixon defended her miming, saying it was the show that people came to see. "This is a pop spectacular, this is a showband show. You come for the experience," he said.

I think that'd be a very good move. You're paying to see a live performance, not just some pampered prince or princess poncing around the stage because he or she thinks their actual in-the-flesh-presence is enough to please their fans, what do ya think? (btw, I love this bit: "Consumers should be protected, even those who go to a Britney Spears concert.") laugh.gif

I know little about Britney Spears, but I'm guessing that she lip-syncs because she dances around a lot as well, no? But then again, so does Kylie, but she's a REAL performer who can sing live as well as dance....and all at the same time, too. tongue.gif

As for who I'd like to see live soon, that'd be Ronan Keating at Rochford Winery next January - but for now he'll have to just stay on my wishlist I'm afraid. sad.gif

Well, I hope he makes it to the south eastern coastal cultural capital of Melbourne, the Arts Centre in Frankston laugh.gif No, it's very nice and Lyle isn't going to be here, I'm quite sure. I would KILL to see him but the city is way too far away ... I just wish he'd made it 8 or 9 years back instead of bailing out like he did. I will be looking out for a very detailed review from you !! Not very happy but the roses are pretty just now smile.gif

Couldn't be bothered with Britney (I lost interest when I saw how her name was spelt, years ago. Not that I was interested anyway!)

I think the stuff telling people what to expect (the lip synching etc.) is unnecessary. Don't agree with it.

Enter the competitions, write to the newspapers telling them why you deserve to see Ro ... you never know your luck in a big city. I won two lots of tickets in separate competitions to see the Finn Bros. MAX sessions 5 years back. So ... I know, it's hard BUT ... unsure.gif huh.gif blink.gif take care of you and yours.

I'm so excited the radio station 101.9 RXP just announced their second Christmas concert. Two of my favorites are performing, Pete Yorn and David Gray. I'm all signed up for pre sale tomorrow. Hope I can get them, they sell out quick.

Vacation, July 2009. Stopped at Terrible Herbt's for gas. The pumps have video ads and I was pleasantly surprised to see one for Chris.

Oops! Meant to post this in the thread "places where you've heard Chris" Oh well... wink.gif

It's November 19th and I just got my first email about a summer concert!!! Can you believe that? It's Jethro Tull which is probably my worst nightmare. I just wish the Chris Isaak management would get on the ball and announce his summer shows earlier. I know that I and a bunch of other fans wait for those dates till booking vacations. Oh wait...I am wrong. A U2 summer date was already announced last week.

Not only have the U2 dates been announced, but they've gone on sale. I already have my ticket for June 6 at Angel Stadium. laugh.gif

I wish Chris would announce his earlier too.

Saw The English Beat last weekend at the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, NY. This is where we all thought Chris was playing two summers ago. Instead, he ended up in the parking lot at the sister casino in Salamanca, NY. I believe that was Kenney's favourite venue. laugh.gif

The Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, NY was a very cool place for a show. The Bear's Den only seats a little over 400 people (maybe that's why they moved Chris to a larger place) and the sound is great. I'd definitely go back.

Here's a clip of The English Beat. Dave Wakeling walked right past us before the show. He's the same age as Chris, as a bit of trivia. The first time I saw them I was 19.....time flies....

I'll Take You There (which reached #14 in Canada):

Saturday, November 21st, we saw DAN HICKS AND THE HOT LICKS. What a great concert. Saw him in our 300 seat venue up the road from our house. He played for almost 2 1/2 hours. If you know who I'm talking about, I know how old you are :-) Am definitely buying his new CD, which the name escapes me right now. When I grow up, I'd like to be one of his "lickettes". :-)

Saw this crazy cat at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC on Monday....

Great show, had box seats (as a friend of the band cool.gif ), shook Setzer's hand, met Spazz Hatton (bass), Tommy (drummer), and a few of the other horn players. Went for drinks with Steve (trumpet), and friends Charlie (sax) and his wife Kim before the show. Good times.

Also inadvertently caught Rod Stewart at the Rockefeller Centre the next night as we were walking by. My mom is pretty jealous. smile.gif
