Chris Isaak surprised late-night diners at Uptown's Famous Dave's by hurtling onto the stage for a few songs last Saturday.

He was like a "green flash," said Chris Faris, who works for a UK company that does e-mail and Web filtering security. "Kind of flew up on stage all in lime-green shirt and pants; put on a great unannounced show for about a half-hour at about 12:30 [a.m.]. Ron Thompson & His Resistors are playing ... Ron Thompson, who looked like Grandpa of 'The Munsters,' was just jamming on guitar and all of a sudden it's announced that Chris Isaak is going to play with the band now.

"Isaak starts singing away and the 40 people are just going nuts. He played for about half an hour. He sang a few songs, played guitar and waltzed off in the same way he flew on -- in a flash. He high-fived a few people and left." Apparently, Isaak has played with Thompson, a great blues guitarist, in the past.

"He did not play any commercially recognizable songs. He was either doing some improvising or playing some other stuff he was trying out. Everyone was diggin' it," Faris said.

Isaak had a gig earlier that evening at the Orpheum.

Because Faris kept commenting on the color of Isaak's attire, one had to wonder if it was too much lime green. "It was pretty bright. Kind of a neon," Faris said.

Let me tell you...it was quite the outfit!! Damn, and here all we did after the show was find a Denny's. I KNEW we should have followed those buses!
