Two decades after his sudden death, Roy Orbison’s widow is to release previously unheard recordings by the revered Grammy Award-winner.
Barbara Orbison is set to make public 12 previously unreleased tracks and a series of demos made during the prolific songwriter and performer’s early years.
Released next week, as part of a career-spanning four-CD box set, one of the tracks features Orbison’s distinctive voice on a recording of Ooby Dooby, made with the band Teen Kings, before a different version of the track went on to become Orbison’s first chart success.
A previously unheard cover of Little Richard's Tutti Frutti from 1956 will also be released, along with a series of 1950s demos.
Despite dying from a heart attack at 52, Orbison, whose sartorial signature was a pair of black-framed glasses, managed 30 years in the limelight.
He stormed the charts with Only The Lonely, Oh, Pretty Woman and Crying, picked up several Grammy awards and found success with super group The Travelling Wilburys before his death in 1988.
When a similar best-of Travelling Wilburys album, which also included previously unreleased material, was released last year, it went to the top of the UK charts.
The Soul of Rock And Roll is released on Sony BMG & Orbison Records on October 13.
