Full Version: Chris interviewed on BBC Radio 2 - Oct 2008
Chris Isaak Boards > Chris Isaak Info > Chris Isaak
1967baby
Chris is interviewed all this week (27-31 Oct 2008) in the 'Tracks of My Years' slot on the Ken Bruce show on BBC Radio 2, which airs 9.30am to 12 noon (UK time). For those of you not from the UK, this is a daily radio show that interviews a different celebrity guest each week about their favourite songs. The guest picks 10 songs - they play 2 a day for 5 days and the guest talks about why they like their chosen songs. It’s great to hear Chris talking on UK radio and his song choices are really interesting. They are:

I Want You To Want Me ~ Cheap Trick (no surprise!)
Begin The Beguine ~ Frank Sinatra
I Wanna Hold Your Hand ~ The Beatles
Creep ~ Radiohead
Home ~ Michael Buble
It’s Now Or Never ~ Elvis Presley
Whispering ~ Nino Tempo and April Stevens
The Levee’s Gonna Break ~ Bob Dylan
Cold Cold Heart ~ Norah Jones
Hurt ~ Johnny Cash

You can listen to Chris talking about his song choices here

There will be 5 interviews in total and each interview is only about 2 minutes long. The link will be updated daily with each interview until 31 Oct. It is replaced with a new celebrity guest each week, so if you are reading this after 31 Oct then you will need to access the archive version which is available here and select Chris Isaak from the list.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link, 1967baby. Unfortunately, I'm not able to listen to Chris on the website talk about his favorite songs since I'm on dial-up. It's good that the different favorite songs were listed on the website at least.

Thank you for pointing us to those little interviews 1967Baby. Just hearing a teeny bit of "It's Now or Never" made my morning! rolleyes.gif I put the 3 interviews that have been done so far together and hopefully those of you having trouble listening from the website can save them from this link.

"Tracks of my Years" (first 3)

Thanks for the links. I don't have the facility on my Sky+ to tape Radio programmes and they misery guts at my work don't let us listen to the Radio.....Ken Bruce has always been my favourite Radio 2 DJ - much better than Johnathan Ross and Russell Brand put together (bad, bad boys!!!!).
Cheers again

1967baby and Munchie17 -- You are both legends! Thanks. When Chris starting singing "It's Now or Never", one of my cats ran over to the computer speaker and tried to bite it. Honestly.......that's funny. She didn't react to Elvis singing or even Carl Perkins but Chris was another story. laugh.gif

I hear that Radiohead will not perform "Creep" live any longer. Thom Yorke apparently doesn't like it. Brandi Carlile sometimes sings Creep in her live shows. Isn't that fascinating? laugh.gif tongue.gif

Michael Buble -- yes, Chris is right, Michael is great live. His voice is pretty darn amazing live and so is his band.

Looking forward to the explanation of the next selections. Especially Norah Jones because at this point I don't like her singing.

Kathy, thanks for doing that. I knew it was convertible to another format but just hadn't mustered up the energy to do it. Love hearing Kenney breathing in the background. LOL

I could listen to Chris read the phone book.

Thank you 1967baby for that great find, and you too, Munchie for putting it on savefile. But technodummy me needs to know whether it has to be downloaded on Realplayer like it does on the BBC site. I had bad problems on my pc when I'd downloaded Realplayer before and after having lots of trouble getting rid of it and the trouble it caused, I don't want a repeat performance. Can it be heard via Mediaplayer instead? Thanks!
FifiKitty
No one asked me but since I'm here.....not meaning to barge in or anything....

Yes, the file that Munchie put on SaveFile can played with Media Player. Just right-click on it and choose "Play with Media Player".

Oh, also...don't forget to download the file to your desktop first (so you won't lose it.)

No matter, I'm glad you barged in, thanks so much! I know I'll enjoy listening.

Here is the last installment. Days 1-5 together. Savefile is not working right this morning so I tried something different. wink.gif (you can delete the others now, if this one works for you...) This site actually plays the file before you download it.

Munchie, thanks for the different link. SaveFile wasn't working for me at all.

Listening to that last bit made me wonder once again how Johnny Cash ever decided to record "Hurt". I can't imagine him sitting around his living room listening to Nine Inch Nails CDs and choosing a song to cover. Must do some digging on that one. Great song. Johnny does it brilliantly. I have an old photo of him somewhere. Must dig that up too.

I should have remembered the connection between Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash was being produced by Rick Rubin at the time, who is a friend of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). Rick suggested to Johnny that Johnny record "Hurt". Listen to the two versions back to back. It's interesting how different they are but great at the same time. Johnny Cash's "Hurt" had a b-side of "Personal Jesus", done originally by Depeche Mode. (strange!)

The first time I heard "Hurt" in concert was when Nine Inch Nails opened for David Bowie in Toronto in 1995. Trent Reznor and David Bowie did a duet of Hurt. It was awesome!!

I also found the old photo of Johnny and June Cash that my best guy friend in university gave me. It was taken in the '80's. Johnny Cash was introducing "Johnny Cash Machines" (one of the first ATMs in Canada) at the time for a trust company called "Canada Trust". Life-sized cardboard cut-outs of Johnny appeared in each Canada Trust branch. laugh.gif Johnny and June came to Hamilton, Ontario to play a concert and invited all the Canada Trust employees and customers. My friend, Scott, met Johnny. He is in the photo below, back row, third from the left (plaid shirt).

that is too cool smile.gif Chris has some interesting song choices smile.gif I have not heard Creep by Raidohead but I heard the same song by Stone Temple Pliots the other day it was intresting. If I remember correctly Johnny Cash won a video award at the MTV music awards for his video of Hurt smile.gif C&KsGirl Kerri

I thought the photo was cool also. (I think that's what you were referring to.) You didn't ever hear Creep by Radiohead? That was the first song of theirs that was played on radio in the Southern Ontario area. I haven't heard the STP version.
