Cheryl's CRAZY-4-CHRIS
I just checked out the latest blog on his Myspace....and I wish I could be so lucky to afford the 5 star VIP package:

Tanya
I wish I had the money. It's so worth it to get a photo op with him.
wildflower
Honestly, I find it a bit cheesy. If all the profits were going to the US Troops, I could understand it, but if it's being done just for money it just doesn't sit right with me. I usually love everything he does...this just kinda bugs me. Only the rich get the good seats...how about all your loyal fans over the years?

"Cheesy"??? ....maybe??

BUT: Let's NOT forget that any ONE of us would LOVE to afford it just the same! wink.gif
I can't help but wonder if the expenses of ALL that Chris has done in this last year: [concerts, CI Hour tapings, NEW album, NEW video, etc. cost a bunch!] Making money when you need to is NOT a bad thing wink.gif

I was disappointed to find out that I can't get rows 1-7 unless I purchase an expensive "dinner package" for the Aug. 25th gig at "
Humphrey's By The Bay"....but don't think I don't wish I had the money just the same. wink.gif I will be settling for rows 8+ because I won't miss the only scheduled San Diego concert...NO MATTER WHAT!

I'm new at this site, but I have to say I'm a bit put out by these prices as well. I have been going to see these guys since 1985 when they played places like New George's in San Rafael. The ticket price was five dollars and a two drink minimum, some nights they'd play two shows and I went to both. They've paid their dues, BUT I think this whole 300-5000 dollar thing is a bit class conscience and if only the rich can afford the good seats, this leaves out a lot of loyal fans, myself included, that have gone to see them in good times AND in bad. So to ask this kind of money in a recession is absolutley ludicrous. If I have to be rich to get a good seat...count me out.

I don't disagree...

BUT: You some of you guys are still making it out like you can't go to the concerts unless you are "rich".

While I don't agree with the crazy prices for "preferential" treatment and "better seats"......it's like I mentioned before: "I won't miss it"

I will still go as a loyal fan just the same. I may not get front row (or rows)...but, since I'm not "rich"...I can't get front row(s), but I will still be going!!! wink.gif Let's NOT get too crazy wit' it blink.gif Go if you want to go...don't get caught up in the VIP packages. Enjoy the concert from whatever seats you get! Stay loyal just the same! wink.gif

I agree it's sleazy. Here's a long post...Probably his manager/management company is responsible for this latest money grab idea. They want their percentage cut you know, particularly in a recession they want to get richer still from those who have the cash. And the donation to the troops sounds like its probably his managers idea since Nicks is also their client and she gave ipods out (with her songs on them!) at a military hospital, so the idea of which charity they would donate to--to offset the greedy marketing ploy--was at hand, ah yes, the "troops."

Yes me and my husband remember the $5 admission shows in the north bay and the $8 and $12 shows in SF in the early days but now Chris is involved with Hollywood's greediest managers and marketers who can sell a case for declining record sales, etc. And they have chipped away at CI's sweet nature and innocence big time this past decade. Yes, there are costs to offset but let's face it, these perps are rich and getting richer. The true focus should be more on artistic endeavor--creativity time and opportunity for chris to be around artists and not managers and promotions execs all the time and put out better product and greater sales but he is so strongly led by management to their ends, the least of which is any grasp of artistic creativity, the creative process.

He can still, as his own entity, get back out there with best selling products and top 40 hits anytime in the future to "offset costs," and the slow selling records and productions and go leaner on all the management type bloodsuckers and over-abundant personnel on payroll. It's a goose and golden egg story that managment never read. Yes there will be those who will disagree but let them. Meanwhile, we throw in with Wildflower and the previous posters here about the ever increasing greedy marketing ploys of late, this latest seeming a bit over the top making CI look like some kind of whore for sale when its the managers who are the whores. It's enough he gets big fees for similar private shows.
iamglobal
Hey, I think his charitable donations are authentic, but these special high-end ticket prices are just the latest in a long line of artists/venues doing this stuff. Every show I tried to get tickets to this year, from Bryan Adams to Leonard Cohen (2 very different performers, even if they're both Canadian!) were offering speciall 500-2000 deals to meet the guy. Whatever. It certainly isn't being done b/c Isaak has expenses this year, that's a crock. He doesn't pay for the tv show, he gets paid for it! It doesn't make my blood boil, but it is one reason why I don't see as many concerts as I used to, by far, and does create a certain alienating effect.

I am not disagreeing with what is being said here...who is to blame? Live Nation? The venues, the promoters .... it seems like they are part of this in their efforts to get money out of concert-goers....the entire thing cannot be blamed on Chris Isaak's managers....we don't know how much of these "proceeds" go to whom or who concocts these marketing ploys.... all we know is that the ticket sellers and venues keep coming up with these different packages, setting up extra rows in front of the first row, holding premium seats for secondary ticket sellers such as TicketsNow and others, holding pre-sales for radio stations and certain credit card holders, and setting aside tickets for radio stations, friends of the venue, the promoters, and who knows what.... Securing a good seat through the conventional way is almost like winning the lottery. It is easy to blame Chris Isaak's managers -- it is too bad that we don't have the entire story.......

When Green Day was touring a few years back when "American Idiot" came out, they were huge! They played very large stadiums and every single ticket was $35.00...first row or very last row. I think that was really giving a sh*t about your fans. I don't blame Chris...I'm sure it's management and just the way the record industry is now. I love his live shows and would not miss him when he comes to NYC/NJ and I usually think he's so great to his fans, staying and signing all those autographs. Who does that? But...this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I expect more from him.

Some of the perks on that package are pretty funny, too. Crowd free merchandise shopping? I can't say I've ever experienced that at a Chris Isaak show. Get over yourself!

Indeed, I thought about that too. Gee, you get to buy merchandise from us without hassle. Joy, joy! They've always been very accommodating about selling us stuff, don't recall that ever being difficult!

Look, I like Isaak, but I even disagree with my mom so its hardly sacrilege to disagree with him. He had to sign off on this stuff, if you're going to get to meet him he has to be there! He certainly seems close to his management in any case. Nobody's forcing him to do this, as you mentioned Green Day, and Springsteen doesn't do these things and has kept prices low compared to other people of his stature.

Shouldn't make it a bigger deal than it is, but I'm not giving him a pass on this either. I think these things are cynical and are overpriced (though I do wonder what a Chris Isaak gift bag consists of...)

For five thousand bucks, it better be a pot of gold!
Oklahoma
Oh, my! So very very tacky! Yeah, he should be making money, but I'm sure he does OK with an $85 to $125 ticket at his nicer venues...

Somehow, the whole thing seems so un-Chris Isaak to me. If he signs for free after shows (given that you have authentic CI merchandise), why would you pay thousands of dollars to get his autograph and a few trinkets? Is it just for the privilege of sitting apart from the unwashed masses? I'm sure Chris will have a good laugh to find that there are people who will pay that price even in this economy.

When I looked up prices for the presale tickets, I just shook my head in disgust. Yeah, I can afford to pay a thousand for a seat, but is it really worth it? I love Chris Isaak and Silvertone, and their concerts are a true joy in the summer. I've been looking forward to catching a show for months. But right now I'm not impressed by this sales gimmick.

I'll probably go to a show or two, but just for the music and entertainment. I don't need the whole Chris Isaak Fantasy Package to enjoy the music.

Crabby, I know.
Laura
Cheryl's CRAZY-4-CHRIS
Well...I'm not all wrapped up in the VIP thing...unlike some who think they can't go to the CI&S concert unless they have lots of money...

...I'm going to the concert in San Diego no matter what!

I won't be a VIP...but I'm still going!

I don't give a hoot who has the VIP package! LOL! biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Esp. since the VIP thing has been going on for years and years....long before it was advertised for us to be one of them....it's true!! So I can't get mad at Chris! How else do we see these "private" and "privileged" photo op's of Chris with others here on the board and on the net at almost every concert?? It's because those peeps had VIP privileges, I'm sure! wink.gif So...it's not something new, I bet!

P.S. Let us NOT forget that the $325-5,000 VIP package includes a "pre-party" ....

doesn't that mean with the band?? So it's NOT just for an "autograph" and "a few trinkets"
wildflower
I think the point is that everyone should be able to have a chance at the good seats. No one plans on missing the show just because of this. I'm not getting "wrapped" up in it. I'm gonna enjoy the show(s) no matter where I sit.

I don't think you're crabby so much as right-on. Yes Laura this money-grabbing promo is un-Chris Isaak-- but very like his manager. Why would someone pay thousands of dollars to get his autograph and a few trinkets? Answer: So manager (hoping to sell lots of these) gets a large cut of the pie after selling the idea to chris as a great way for him to make more money. Too bad he doesn't have influences around him that are not so focused on money, money, money--better people, to lead him to higher callings, more admirable pursuits or let him be the very decent guy he started out to be --and not yet another Hellywood- influenced "sophisticate." Yes crabby too but also right on.

Under his current management Chris also has been playing way more high fee private shows than ever (mgmt loves those incomes). BILLY JOEL recently said "we just did a gig in Vegas and then did some stupid private gig in Palm Springs. They're like doing bar mitzvahs. They're not fun because it's not your audience. I feel like a slut when I do them. You get paid like a really good call girl. Walking offstage is like the walk of shame."

I read that Stevie (same manager as CI) and FMac typically save a
hunk of the best seats and move them to online brokers who raise the
price up to 10 times face value as do certain others in the biz. Unlike
B. Springsteen. He and his management bitterly complained about scalping
and fans being redirected from Ticketmaster to TicketsNow where prices
go skyhigh. That entire matter is under review by House and Senate panels.

Also, about the tour list posted above, are there Texas dates booked yet?
