That's cool that Chris will be making a special appearance at tomorrow night's "MTV Movie Awards". I wonder what he'll be doing there. I look forward to watching it.

Chris did a good job at performing with LeAnn Rimes on the "MTV Movie Awards" tonight. I didn't recognize the song. Chris had performed with LeAnn before in Elvis's cover of "Devil in Disguise".

I LOVED that performance back then with LeAnn and him doing "Devil in Disguise"

...I still have to wait here on the West Coast for the MTV Movie awards to start.

I did get call from Miss 'FBK' that his appearance was short?

I have to wait and be patient....ha ha! laugh.gif

ha ha....when he and LeAnn sang their part of the medley about "Titanic" and "Chronicles of Narnia".......I loved that part: "Chronicle's of Narnia"....ha ha! I love that movie! laugh.gif how goofy!

ForeverBlueKoolaid
He was totally on a boat, you guys LOL

I freaking love the whole "Lonely Island" CD.

It's nuts to watch him sing that stuff!

I thought it was really, really dumb, but Chris looked so damn hot in that tux, so I'm more than willing to overlook the dumb part. LOL

I thought it was all embarassing and something he should have passed on and I
think the manager's dog at an awards ceremony is so out of place I just have to
shake my head in disbelief. Chris needs a whole renaissance and new management
in my opinion to avoid gettiing further and further away from cool, and to bring back--
stick to what made him a star long ago, the cool, sexy, talent of what Chris
brings on his own without such bad booking selections, mgmt., and lack of taste
in image guidance. I feel like Chris gets lost out there in the business and just goes
along with whatever is handed to him, literally. Everything I saw of him yesterday
was just plain sad and not good for his career in my opinion. Go ahead. Agree or disagree.
junebug
He so should not have done that show and on top of it, dressed and
coming across as some kind of old square oldie but goodie--totally bad casting!

Wish his old managment and E. Jacobsen would ride in to take over--
turn it back around to always being cutting edge cool and sexy-- and save
the day (and the tomorrows).

Oh Dear ~ It's like watching Frank Sinatra in the 60's!!!! Baby did a bad....bad...thing....

Man, maybe I am getting old, but I thought it was all in such bad taste. Chris looked good, but he brought himself down a notch. Forrest Whitaker should have had more class too.

Hey we can't watch it here in canada sad.gif hope its on youtube C&Ksgirl

He looked good – but then when doesn’t he?

I don’t get it. Was it to ‘get on down’ with the kiddie crowd? or was it just another appearance in order to be seen? sad.gif
I think it failed miserably, and was beneath him. Abysmal even.

Management needs to lift their game – too many bad choices appearance wise, and this VIP ticket bullshit seriously needs a re-think. Don’t forget your old loyal fanbase Mr Isaak – there are more of us, than the new crowd you’re trying to appeal to.

Bring back the cool.

Lisa+Chris
I totally agree. Completely horrendous and embarrassing.

It was goofy...no doubt!

But...no more goofy than the way he acts most of the time when he's being the fun-loving, goofy self that he is.

It was just a "goofy" little skit that most of us viewers would know was just for fun and laughs.

I didn't think he lowered himself to any level besides being the goofy guy he is.

I don't deny that it was corny....no doubt....but I know it was just for fun and laughs. Some of you all are taking it way too serious in my humble opinion. wink.gif

How come you all act like Chris does NOT have a mind of his own and that he's controlled by his manager?? I'm pretty sure he could say that he doesn't want to do something if he disagrees with it? Obviously he had to learn, practice, and rehearse his skit....and he could have said "this is stupid" if he didn't agree with it....right? blink.gif

I disagree that it was "embarrassing"....it was HARDLY that!....

.... it was "fun" and "funny" and a good way to have fun and be known to the younger generation?? blink.gif

P.S.....I'm sure I'll get "attacked" by the members of this board who disagree...but who can't do it in a civil way. rolleyes.gif

FWIW, my 17 year old nephew watched it with me. Caveat, he doesn't care for Chris' music, but he said it felt like MTV was trotting out an "old guy" who was trying to be cool and that it was dumb (he felt the same about Forrest Whittaker doing it too).

I don't think it was embarrassing, just one of those things that didn't come off as funny as it was supposed to be- just like 99% of SNL skits are.

5 minutes out of my life sad.gif

that was a shocker. I love my dog too but there is a time and a place and Rodney was the highlight unsure.gif

I can't believe it's come to this ...
Cheryl L.
unsure.gif OH dear.....I found that all rather.....bizarre. Dunno what to make of it, really. Just what is the context, does anyone know? Who the hell is Andy Samberg?? (And more to the point, should we care?!) I couldn't even understand what the hell they were even singing at first (as in the lyrics). Didn't recognise any of those songs at all.....but then I heard Forrest belting out something about a 'dick in a box' so I think I get the gist..... huh.gif . Were all the lyrics based on er, male appendages?! I think there's always a place for low-brow comedy (thank you ABC for bringing the Chaser boys back! laugh.gif ) but seeing A-listers like Chris, Leanne and Forrest belt out those lyrics rather than someone say, like a Billy Connolly or even Benny Hill (RIP) - nope, sorry, doesn't work for me, I'm afraid.....

Absolutely hated it. Painful to watch.

OKAY,

don't know if you REALIZE this....but maybe it was a way to show he was cool still.

Sorry to point this out, but this is what my generation finds funny. There's not a lot of funny ANYTHING anymore.

Who cares. It ain't like it's hurting his career.

I'm pretty sure most of the kids in there didn't know know who the hell he was anyways.

...maybe us older, more loyal fans do NOT agree with it (like.... even I thought it was corny), but....

... It's what keeps his name "fresh" and most likely makes some 20-30 year olds go:

"Oh....Chris Isaak in concert in my city??? I'd like to see him...
...I remember him from the MTV Movie Awards"!!

He's just keeping his name "fresh" for everyone.......the younger "SNL generation" ....right?

...if he DID NOT:
We'd not see in him concert anymore. Right? He would NOT keep his popularity....

...So, let's think about what keeps the venues booking him for us to see him....
it's this kind of "goofy" stuff! PERIOD! cool.gif

Maybe we should all just get off his back [and his manager's back]!!!!!
chrisandkenneysgirl
Sounds like I did not miss much by not being able to see the movie awards now it could not have been that bad. I think that the only thing management needs to rethink is the VIP ticket packages it's a good idea on paper but there is a better way to do it they could have done a contest or something like that to make it fair as most of us can not afford the pakcages now but if had the $$$ we would. Please do not get me wrong I am still a fan and love Chris and the band just as much as ever, I am just stating my opinion. C&Ksgirl~ Kerri

I have no idea, I'm rather proud to say I've never heard of him and if that was a medley of his "talent" then I'm not missing anything and I won't waste time reading about him. But then I'm a boring old fart and maybe the kiddies loved it. I hope not, for the sake of the future of the planet!! What a waste of space and time that was ... why did I bother checking out the clip someone kindly posted? unsure.gif smile.gif

why did I watch the clip? - 'cause I wanted to see how good Isaak looked. And boy did he scrub up well tongue.gif

I didn't understand the words at first, but when I listened again I thought it was funny. The man must of thougth it was funny himself or I'm sure he wouldn't have done it. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Moni and Cheryl are the only ones that get it!! I finally got to watch it. It was so cool and I'm so happy Chris did it!! Not as a put down...but I think alot of you are just out of touch. Andy Samburg is from Saturday Night Live...it's taken from one of his most famous skits done with Justin Timberlake, dick in a box. It's been huge on You Tube. So, anyway, alot of the MTV audience may have not known Chris Isaak before but I'm sure they'll remember him now. BTW...motherf*cker is another famous skit they did, there's alittle of that in the clip too.
bonoist
I get it. I just didn't care for it. I LOVE the Andy Samburg SNL shorts, so its not like I didn't know what to expect. I just thought it didn't come off very funny.

Just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean I'm a dumbass who doesn't "get it"

I stand corrected but I never called anyone a dumb ass. I just thought maybe people weren't into SNL or Andy Samburg. Whatever...don't have to get nasty. I still think it was funny and I think it was a a very cool move on Chris's part. I think Chris has a great sense of humor to go along with that.
chrisrocks
These songs are so juvenile. I can't believe people wasted time on this! Andy is not nor ever has been that funny.

Good sport Chris was but it was embarrassing.
FifiKitty
I just saw (and heard) the clip. I think that Chris fared better than LeAnn or Forest but I still don't get it. I didn't see the clip within the awards show, i.e., I saw it out of context but I don't quite understand why Chris did that. More a waste of time than anything else. I don't like Andy Samberg, though, and that could explain it. Did anyone notice Will Ferrell's expression at the end of the medley? It was priceless. He didn't look like he was enjoying it at all.

Overall, I see this as a blip that probably won't hurt or help Chris (unless it's the last thing he ever does and that would be a tragedy...I wouldn't want to see his recording career end as a novelty act). What I see as more important is this VIP thing with AllAccess. I'm disillusioned at the moment and I want to be proven wrong. What would Ernest Tubb say?
donna589
I don't understand all of the criticism of Chris appearing at the award show. He looked good - sounded good - and that's it. All of MTV award shows are a 'bit' different - nothing wrong with that. I think that the appearance was a venue that most people wouldn't expect Chris Isaak on - and I believe that's a good thing. As far as the 'expensive' VIP package deals now - who cares??? Maybe there won't be the 'meet and greets' anymore but that doesn't take away from the fantastic concerts that CI&S put on. I also thought that Leann sounded great. She's got a beautiful voice and the two of them sounded great together. Maybe we're putting this whole MTV appearance just a bit out of proportion. Chris Isaak is no different that any other performer. They are out there to reach the most vast audience they can - and if it means that some fans don't like all their choices, well, that's just the way it is. He still puts on a fantastic concert, has a great new cd., can't ask for much more than that. Just my opinion.
FifiKitty
If Chris had a good time doing the MTV Awards, then why not do fun stuff? He can do whatever the heck he wants. I was just kind of neutral on the whole thing. I loved seeing Chris in a tux and all those photos of him and Rodney were super cute.

I'm extremely thankful that Chris tours as much as he does and that we have a new CD. I am amazed that he has done the meet and greets for as long as he has. I love saying hi after the show and just having a few seconds to get something signed. I can completely understand that he is exhausted from doing them. Not just from doing the meet and greets but this past year has been gruelling what with non-stop touring, a new CD (songs and artwork) AND a an excellent new TV show (which beats all the others out there by a mile), videos for the new CD, and all the promotion associated wtih the CD and TV show debuting within a couple of days of each other. It's surprising he's still standing. That is a LOT to take on and I believe that almost everyone would understand if Chris stopped doing the meet and greets for a while.

What Chris might not hear is what I've been hearing from people on this board and from many that don't visit the board. On the surface, it appears that it's just about money now. Introducing the VIP tickets at $325 and stopping the meet and greets he's always done are a bit incongruous. Chris has always seemed so "not about money" but in the absence of more info, that's the message some people are getting, even if he isn't sending it.

Well said! I totally agree with you.
Cheryl L.
I think that criticism of the MTV thing wasn't necessarily aimed directly at Chris himself, or Chris's performance per se, but rather the decision made for him to do it in the first place (whosever idea it was). It was just a little odd to see that after years of carefully cultivating a certain image, he suddenly goes against the grain and does something off-centre that people weren't expecting - and some found that decision a little um, hard to understand. I agree that it's fun to shake things up a little sometimes and do something completely unexpected, but I think that was a little too unexpected for some, lol. It wasn't a case of people not getting it, or not understanding that kind of humour (and it certainly was NOT an 'age-related' issue - blue humour has been around since Adam was a pup, and hell, I like naughty stuff just as much as the next person...) but image-wise it just seemed a strange choice for the Isaak camp to make... blink.gif I know NOTHING about the real nuts and bolts of showbiz, but I would have thought that if you're an actor or singer, image is everything - your entire career is built on it after all - and that it'd be a big no-no to tamper with it??? Just look at all the flack that poor old Joaquin Phoenix copped when he um, changed careers (or whatever it was he did... laugh.gif ). Anyway, the bottom line is that just a one-off performance like that isn't gonna kill off Chris's career, and if he had fun doing it, even though he ruffled a few feathers in here, well c'est la vie - it's just that some of us are still scratching our heads over it. smile.gif

As for other things changing that are ruffling the feathers (being charged for the meet/greets and maybe they're ending, period etc.). It could be just a temporary or one-off thing..... one thing I've noticed is that people often jump to conclusions pretty fast on these boards.....I say employ a 'wait and see' attitude first instead of getting all hot under the collar over stuff that might never happen, but even so, well it's not the end of the world. smile.gif

[quote image-wise it just seemed a strange choice for the Isaak camp to make... blink.gif

MTV barely plays music anymore. The channel has its nerve calling itself Music TV. But they do have the MTV Music Awards. The company Chris performed with wasn't shabby and there was a full choir and an orchestra. It was the big production of the night following the disgusting Bruno episode. Chris got some press from it. It's the kind of humour the typical MTV audience likes and it was a parody of the host's skits on SNL. Remember that Jim Carrey asked for it from the audience. Chris seems kind of conservative and probably didn't like doing the skit either. But it was probably a good career to stay in the vision of the music business big wigs who were at or watched the event. We are looking at it from a viewer and fan perspective. He was a good sport to go along with it. A lot of the CI fans are from a different generation and don't understand or like that style of humour. Not a bad career move at all. It is a chance to showcase himself, whether or not he sang any of his songs, in front of the people who will be nominating and voting for the 2009 MTV and Grammy Music Awards. He is saying, "Hey, I'm still here." After all, it's been seven years since he released any new material.
Mikey
He looked hot. He looked great. He looked cool. He sang silly songs for a laugh and a smile. It won't affect anything in his career. I love that he got air time on mtv again.
chrisandkenneysgirl
I just saw the MTV movie awards and I thought it was pretty funny and I really do not think this is going to hurt Chris at all C&Ks girl~Kerri
mark t
Isaak seems to have a bizarre sense of humour, and a lot of that came out on the original Chris Isaak show. I don't know whose idea it was to do it, but maybe he had a say in it and did it because it made him laugh? The whole thing was a little oddball, but that's what i like about it, Chris and Leeann Rimes are the last people that you would expect to see singing those songs. smile.gif Not big on Andy Samberg myself, he's done a few things that made me laugh, but considering the fact that most people think Dane Cook and Larry The Cable Guy are funny, I can be pretty glad that THEY weren't writing Chris' material. smile.gif
