Re: La Tumba Sera el Final. I would love to have someone who can find the lyrics and translate them from Spanish to English,--go ahead and post them here. That would be truly awesome and hard to achieve. I spent a long time searching the web to no avail. I guess someone would have to listen to chris sing the recorded song, then translate it line for line. I once heard the Engllsh lyrics read, and they are truly beautiful-- I love you more than my mother, beyond death, those kinds of sentiments. Really heavy great stuff.

Hey junebug. I don't know any Spanish, but did a little bit of French at uni, so I'll take a stab at translating the title at least for you. I know that all the Romance languages (Spanish, French, Italian etc.) share the same latin roots for many of their words, so going by what the closest French meaning I can make of it, it would be something like: "The Tomb will be the (inescapable) End."(??) How romantic. laugh.gif

Miss Rae Merci asked me to post this for y'all:

La Tumba Sera El Final

Fighting for separnos but is useless,
nuestro amor es tan grande our love is so great
como no habra jamás. as ever there will be no.

Juntos caminaremos hasta la muerte, Together we will walk to the death,
y aunque el mundo se oponga and although the world is opposed
nos tendremos que amar. We have to love.

La tumba sera el final, The tomb will be the final,
ahi sera la separación there will be separation
y hasta en la tumba te sigo amando and even in the grave te sigo amando

si quiere Dios. if God wants.

Mienten si te aseguran Lie if you say
que no te quiero, no te quiero,
solamente a mi madre only my mother
la queria mas que a tí. The more that you wanted.

Ella que nos bendice de aya del cielo, She blesses us aya of the sky,
me lo dijo en un sueño told me in a dream
que seras para mi. that you will be for me.

La tumba sera el final, The tomb will be the final,

Say, that's a very good translation. You left out one lil' thing, tho, 'bout when he talks about his mom:

he tell her (his flame) that the only person he loves more than her (is his mother)

In Latin and specifically in Spanish culture, this is pretty much considered the highest compliment (or honor).

UP

BTW, this song has always been my favorite cover (of a Flaco Jimenez song) by them (Silvertone). Don't you think yer Uncle Kenney does the most beautious harmonizing on this one??

A few details in the song translation didn't come through (no offense meant):

Luchan por separarnos, pero es inutil / They fight to separate us, but it is useless
Nuestro amor es tan grande, como no habra jamas / Our love is so great, such as there will never be
Juntos caminaremos hasta la muerte / Together we shall walk until death
Y aunque el mundo se oponga, nos tendremos que amar / And although the world/everybody opposes it, we will have to love each other

(Chorus)
La tumba sera el final / The grave will be the end
Alli sera la separacion / There (death) is the separation
Y hasta en la tumba te sigo amando si quiere Dios / And even at the grave I will continue to love you, if God wills it

Mienten y te aseguran que no te quiero / They lie and assure you that I don't love you
Solamente a mi madre la queria mas que a ti / Only my mother did I love more than you
Ella que nos bendice de alla del cielo / She (mother) who gives us her blessing from over there in heaven
Me los dijo en un sueno que seras para mi / She told me in a dream that you will be mine/for me

Chorus X 2

This type of music is conjunto--very Tex-Mex. I grew up hearing it (not listening to it--I couldn't stand it). If you can image it, this is a love song, sung with passion to declare true, undying love. Imagine Mexican men drinking beer and declaring their love. Hispanic men are know for getting very sentimental when they drink....Laura

Thank you to all of you who contributed info about this great song! And it is fortunate that Laura who grew up listening to Rancho music is also a teacher, able to give more translation details and background about the genre. On AM radio, I grew up hearing a lot of Tex-Mex "Rancho/Ranchito" music but I just loved it, the rhythms and the exuberance of the singers, musicians, the great melodies and harmonies and passions. For now, happy trails, thanks again and buenos noches...La tumba sera el final!
