Thought you Americans (& other nationalities

) would be interested to know an Australian Idol contestant performed a unique composition of Wicked Game... and didn't get voted off! Chris' seductive melody was absent, but the piece still had punch.

GF I watched Idol last night and at first was pleased that someone was going to sing Wicked Game - by the end of it I wanted to reach through the screen and ring his neck

You could say I was not impressed at all

Sounded nothing like the original

Ah, Senayr. Sorry to hear you didn't like it. I can understand why, though. It certainly wasn't anything like the original.

I couldn't hear it well enough, but what I did hear of it, YUCK! It pales in comparrison to Isaak's. I think WG is a VERY risky tune to try to recreate and do it well. How could you possibly top the original?? The original to me is just perfection in a song. You have to give the young guy kudos for trying, but wow...didn't work, IMHO. (sorry)

It wasn't like the original ... and that's why I bothered to stick around and listen to his interpretation.
'Course he got absolutely nowhere near the 14second "No IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII"... but good on him for giving it a go!

I dont watch Australian Idol, but I have seen a few local bands over the years try to do WG and I think because, well to me anyway, its his signature song that no one should try it. But then again, if Chris had been there watching it being sung on Australian Idol he would've said good on them for giving it a go.

It may be extremely annoying at times, but imitation is, afterall, the highest form of flattery (they say).

It may be the highest form of flattery if you do it well, if you dont then you have to expect criticism, actually either way you have to expect it. But then again who am I to talk, I dont have any talents at all, except for talking

I didn't catch Idol on Sunday night but I did hear that
Damien did a version of Wicked Game. I came across
this link so you all can listen to him.
Not sure what to think about it but Damien is a great
guy and has the luck of the Irish on his side.

Oh rats - would you believe, I never watch that stupid show but last night we were in between things so I channelled surfed for a while, and came across it, but all I saw was this guy with an impossibly high voice doing a painful rendition of 'Rhiannon' (I don't think Steve Nicks has anything to be worried about...although he DID sing it a lot higher than she did.

)

Everyone looks at me with a bemused (?) look on their face when I say I dont know where my son gets his ability to talk from and they are amazed that I am
amazed that he can say the things he says at his age!! Ha ha ha ha, no never had anyone point a remote at me and if they had I would've been to busy talking to take any notice!! Oh actually yes, my husband has done it a few times from memory....

I didn't catch that one, senayr. Considering 'Feel' is one of my favourite songs in the entire history of the world, I'm kinda glad about that, lol. Nah, like I said we only were passing through Aus. Idol - in between the end of another show and waiting for the 'Pink Panther' to start up. I don't know why I've never taken to that show...I'm a reality-show nut for other things. I'll even admit to watching last year's 'Big Brother' *blush*.

You can watch his performance on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdTIcI7u5qEI like how he started out, but I didnt care so much for the middle of the song. Some of his high notes seemed uncomfortable. Its awful hard to listen to anyone else do one of Chris' signature songs. Chris is perfection, to take on his music just kind of sets you up for less than perfection.

O.K. thanks, Calico. Now that I could hear the full song, I think it was an interesting take on Wicked Game. I liked how he tried to put his own unique style into it. Interesting.

Me too!! Well maybe a little longer than 11 seconds but not much. I think we are all just spoiled by Chris. It is funny that some people haven't even heard the original and think that HIM did it?

Thanks for the link Calico - it makes it easier to give an opinion on the complete
version. I actually don't mind his interpretation of the song and I agree with you
Miss Lilo about how he tried to make it his own. I think that is very cool.
I think too the reason why I don't mind it is that I've seen the show since it
started and I might not watch all the time but Damien is one of my favs. I
think it is the whole accent thing.
MarkT can vouch for how giddy I get
over accents.

I agree with the majority here- he totally killed the song and even his own interpritation was pathetic to say the least. When a song has been done so beautifully the first time- why mess with it?! That's my spin on it. Cheers Ladybirdx
PS Nice of him though to sing a classy song like this CI song not only the main stream stuff they always pump out in the Idol shows.

whether it was good or bad, isn't the issue. the fact that he liked the original so much that he wanted to interpret it, is.
imitation (or interpretation) is the highest form of flattery, or so they say.
i agree with the person who said, good on him for giving it a go.

Oh cool! He did the song justice and made it his own! He should win for this.
